How to choose

  • Without a car: Nativos and Coqueiros.
  • Natural pools: Espelho, on the right day. See tides.
  • Cliffs: Taípe and Pitinga.
  • Peace and quiet: Rio da Barra, Itapororoca, Rio Verde.
  • With children: the village beaches and Espelho at low tide. See Trancoso with kids.

Environmental protection

The coast between the Trancoso and Caraíva rivers forms the Caraíva/Trancoso Environmental Protection Area (APA), created in 1993 by the Bahia State Government, covering about 31,900 hectares. Espelho marks the northern boundary of the Corumbau Marine Extractive Reserve, created in 2000. Take your trash with you, don’t step on the coral and don’t feed the fish.

Safety

The open sea, river mouths and cliffs call for attention. Read Trancoso safety before you go.
