Coqueiros Beach is the southern neighbor of Nativos Beach. The name (coqueiros means coconut palms) comes from the coconut grove that lines the sand, a feature English-language Wikipedia highlights. In aerial photos from Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism, it appears with shallow, clear water, light sand and coastal restinga vegetation behind.
How to get there
The simplest way is to walk down from the Quadrado to Nativos and continue south along the sand. If you come by car, use the road accesses; in that case, ask locally about parking, which may be charged.
What the beach is like
Light, wide sand at low tide, coconut palms along the beach and a sea in shades of green and blue. At low tide, shallow stretches form that are good for staying in the water. At high tide, the sand narrows and the waves come closer to the beach shacks.
Facilities
There are beach shacks and beach restaurants. As at Nativos, prices vary a lot between high and low season. This guide does not publish prices without an official source or recommend specific places.
Precautions
- Check the color of the sea and the flags before swimming.
- Don’t leave children alone, even in shallow stretches: the tide changes quickly.
- Take your trash back with you. The coast south of the Trancoso River is part of the Caraíva/Trancoso Environmental Protection Area.
- Avoid the sun between late morning and mid-afternoon.
Pair it with
Heading south, the coast continues to Rio Verde Beach. For a full day on the village beaches, see the 2-day itinerary. Travelers with children will find more tips in Trancoso with kids.
Practical tips
- Arrive along the sand, walking from Nativos Beach: the stretch is flat.
- At low tide, shallow stretches appear; at high tide, the strip of sand narrows.
- Ask about the minimum spend before taking a table at a beach shack.
- Sunscreen, a hat and water: the strong sun is the main discomfort of the day.
