Trancoso’s own beaches can fill days, but the region has more. To the north are the beaches of Arraial d’Ajuda and Porto Seguro; to the south, Caraíva. The Discovery Coast, which includes Porto Seguro, Santa Cruz Cabrália and Belmonte, has dozens of beaches, according to Wikipedia.
Arraial d’Ajuda
Wikipedia highlights four beaches in the district, with seas ranging from calm to open:
- Mucugê, at the foot of the street of the same name;
- Parracho, next door;
- Pitinga, with red cliffs;
- Taípe, the closest to Trancoso, with colorful cliffs.
Combine them with Arraial’s village center on the same day.
Porto Seguro
Across the Buranhém River, Porto Seguro has town beaches and a northern shoreline toward Santa Cruz Cabrália, such as Mundaí and Coroa Vermelha, which Wikipedia lists among the Discovery Coast beaches. From Trancoso, it is better to combine them with the Historic Center or Recife de Fora. See Porto Seguro ferry.
Caraíva
To the south, Caraíva has an open-sea beach next to the river mouth. Since the village has no cars and you arrive by canoe, according to Wikivoyage, it is best to stay the night. See how to get from Trancoso to Caraíva.
