Nights in Trancoso have a rhythm of their own. Instead of big nightclubs, the plan is the lit-up Quadrado: little houses open, tables out, live music in some places and people wandering across the lawn. As an editorial rule, we do not name bars and restaurants.
The Quadrado at night
When the light fades, the little houses around the lawn become restaurants, bars and shops that stay open late. It is the village’s meeting point. In high season it gets very busy; in low season, nights are calmer and some places shorten their hours.
Seasonal parties
Parties happen mainly at the end of the year, over New Year’s Eve and during Carnival. Dates, venues and rules change every year. This guide only publishes events with an official source; check the program on the channels of the organizers and of Porto Seguro City Hall.
More buzz: Arraial d’Ajuda
To the north, Arraial d’Ajuda has Rua do Mucugê, which Wikipedia describes as a street of restaurants, bars and art galleries. To get there and back at night, arrange transport beforehand. See the day trip.
Precautions
- A flashlight for the dirt streets outside the Quadrado.
- Walk back in a group and arrange transport for longer distances.
- Don’t drink and drive.
- Respect the quiet in residential areas and guesthouses.
Pair it with
Dinner on the Quadrado after sunset is the best way to end the day. See where to eat in Trancoso and, if you’re traveling as a couple, Trancoso for couples.
