Curuípe is the southern neighbor of Espelho Beach. Photos in the Wikimedia Commons collection show an emerald-green sea and fishing boats anchored close to the sand, a portrait of the fishing side of this stretch of coast.
Where it is and how to get there
Curuípe lies between Trancoso and Caraíva, on the same route as Espelho. Access is by road, with dirt stretches that get worse after rain. Go by car, taxi or pre-arranged transport and check conditions before setting off.
Tide and reefs
As at Espelho, low tide exposes reefs and forms stretches of calm water. Use the same tide window: many people arrive at Espelho as the tide starts to ebb and walk to Curuípe along the sand. Check the tide table beforehand.
Fishing and the marine reserve
The sea in this region is inside or next to the Corumbau Marine Extractive Reserve, created in 2000 to protect marine resources and the way of life of the fishing communities. Respect the boats, the nets and the fishermen’s work.
Precautions
- Don’t step on the coral and don’t feed the fish.
- Don’t swim between anchored boats.
- Little shade and few facilities.
- Take your trash with you.
