Updated on October 5, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 5, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original

A week lets you explore Trancoso and the Discovery Coast at an easy pace: beaches, villages, Porto Seguro’s history, Pataxó culture and the Atlantic Forest. There are two low tides (Espelho and Recife de Fora). Mark them first on the tide table.

Days 1 to 4

As in the 4-day itinerary: the village, the southern beaches, Espelho and Caraíva, now with an overnight stay.

Day 5: Monte Pascoal

From Caraíva, Monte Pascoal National and Historical Park is closer. The park, created in 1961, protects the mountain sighted by Cabral’s fleet in 1500 and overlaps with lands of the Pataxó people. Confirm visiting arrangements with ICMBio and the community beforehand. If that isn’t possible, take a free day in Caraíva and return to Trancoso.

Day 6: the north and Porto Seguro

Follow the day trip: Arraial early, the ferry, Recife de Fora at low tide and the Historic Center. With a booking, swap the reef for the Jaqueira Reserve.

Day 7: farewell

Morning at Rio da Barra, a quieter beach to the north, and a final sunset on the Quadrado.

Context

The region’s parks are part of the Discovery Coast Atlantic Forest Reserves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. See the Discovery Coast.

Frequently asked questions

What changes in the 7-day itinerary?

A day of nature and culture is added, with Monte Pascoal or the Jaqueira Reserve, and there is time left for quieter beaches to the north.

Monte Pascoal or Jaqueira?

Monte Pascoal for Atlantic Forest and the history of 1500; Jaqueira to learn about Pataxó culture. Both require you to confirm visiting arrangements beforehand.

Isn't a week in Trancoso tiring?

No, as long as you alternate road days with village days. The itinerary already does that.

Do I need a car?

For a week with this many outings, a car makes things much easier. Without one, arrange transport in advance.
